The Other International 12

I mentioned in my post about the American International 12 that there is also what is referred to as the European International 12, the George Cockshott lapstrake, 1912 design, lug-rigged dinghy which is particularly popular in both Italy and the Netherlands. The Italians refer to the class simply as the Dinghy 12 and they race both a fiberglass and a classic wood version. Here is another well done video on the Italian Dinghy 12.

  1. Probably being pedantic but the George Cockshott designed International 12 was an Olympic class in the 1920's.The current class association lists 18 countries, so probably has a better claim to the "International " prefix.

  2. Max,

No argument from me on that one. The American "International 12" had only several hundred built, was only based in New England and production ceased in the late 1960's. As far as I know the recent appearance of a working American "International 12" is the only known survivor except for one in the Mystic Seaport Museum.
