Aussie 18-foot skiff: Vintage Photos

Some great vintage photos of the Aussie 18 have been filtering out at regular intervals from The Open Boat on Facebook. I'm reposting a couple on Earwigoagin.

It's a wonder no one drowned sailing these boats (or did they?) I don't see a life jacket anywhere!

I don't think life jackets became popular for dinghy sailors until the 1960's. My parents let me tootle around all over the Severn River in the 8' pram El Toro as long as I wore my life jacket. Small price to pay for being a kid in charge of your own sailboat.
