Drone shots from the Volvo Ocean Race

Drone sailing videos are becoming a bit passé. They work better for bigger boats, small dinghies seem to get lost in the distance. Like most techniques, judicious use in mixing drone shots with other camera work seems to work the best. Here is a video of exclusive drone shots that works, because, hey, these are the Volvo Ocean Racing machines and, in most cases, they were being launched and retrieved from the Volvo boats. Nothing like getting some out-of-the-boat video in the Southern Ocean.

E-Scow plus A-Scow equals some Wowee Drone Video

I haven't seen many aerial videos of out-and-out planing (for some reason they like following foilers). This video features plenty of spectacular shots of scows doing just that! TOH to the drone operator who figured out how to pace the scows whilst flying into a stiff breeze.

Quadcopter View of a Keeler Regatta: 2014 Heineken Regatta

Bear with me dear reader. I have yet to get my fill of quadcopter sailing videos. At some point they will get boring, but not yet. Even this keelboat regatta viewed from above is fascinating.

The Quadcopter Sailing Videos Keep Coming: Foiler Moths

From the same English quadcopter video wizards, LPB Aerial Imagery, who did the winter dinghy start video I featured a couple of weeks ago; an over the top view of foiler International Moths.

Way cool. Stunning shot of flying boats speeding into the wintry sun.

Another Quadcopter Sailing Video - English Winter Start

Quadcopter - Drone - whatever you want to call it - it's still cool to watch sailing videos taken from up high. A winter sailing series race start from Lymington Town Sailing Club with the typical melange of English sailing dinghies reaching out towards the Solent.

Sailing Videos: Ain't Technology Grand!

Forget about strapping a GoPro to the end of your boom, or somewhere up around the bow, or at the masthead. Booooring! Get yourself one of those $600 radio-control helicopters, the four rotor kind designed to hold one of these small video cameras; fly it around and get all these cool shots from 20 to 40 feet above the water. This is the first sailing video I've seen using this new technology. Expect to see a slew of these aerial sailing movies.
