Music Whenever: Mega Bog "Station to Station"

Found this on my son's playlist. Dreamy. I think it's about a breakup but not totally sure.

Music Whenever: Portugal, The Man "What Me Worry"

I haven't posted a music video for three years but with all the sh%#@t going on, this one seemed most appropriate.

Music Whenever: Brunettes Shoot Blondes, "Houston"

A super-modded out musical instrument housed in a grand piano. Plus, great lyrics about a break-up.

Houston we have a problem
That's it I'm going under
Time's up for our love song
We were, just a one hit wonder
Sorry I had to text it
I'm done this is my Brexit
Tried to press rewind
I swear all of my attempts were desperate
Oh, this is so crazy
Go try to amaze me
You fire back
Start yelling in caps
Perhaps you, you'll know better someday
After the party's over
I hate it when we're sober
Play the music louder
Houston, we have a problem

Gotta gotta go down
Falling into bits
Is it time to say
It's all over now
Gotta gotta go down
If the pieces fit
Is it time we could
Start all over now

I gotta gotta go down
Gotta gotta go down
I gotta gotta go down
Gotta gotta go down

Houston, we have a problem
Come get me out from under
I've been playing my part so hard
Are you still there, I wonder
Sorry, but I'm in the taxi
Shit-talking from the backseat
I've been running away
On my way down
To this dead end street
Oh so we're just crazy
Go keep on erasing all my tracks
Say I was a mess, I guess
You, you know better someday
After the party's over
Call back when it gets colder
Play my music louder
Houston, we have a problem

Gotta gotta go down
Falling into bits
Is it time to say
It's all over now
Gotta gotta go down
If the pieces fit
Is it time we could
Start over now

I gotta gotta go down
Gotta gotta go down
I gotta gotta go down
Gotta gotta go down

I gotta gotta go down
Gotta gotta go down
I gotta gotta go down

Music Whenever: Walk off the Earth "Walking on the Moon"

A boppy cover of the Police song to commemorate the first Moon landing, hence the mock up of Mission Control. The video was aided and abetted by Velcro. See how many uses of Velcro you can spot.

Music Whenever: The Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band "Poor Until Payday"

Nothing more 'Murican" than good, old, rock-a-billy. And a parade to boot! (with what looks to be a wide-body Cadillac - no better representation of Murican bigness!)

Music Whenever: Iron and Wine; "Call it Dreaming"

My read on this song... "Pay it forward."

say its here, where our pieces fall in place
any rain softly kisses us on the face
anyway it means we’re running
we can sleep and see them coming
where we drift and call it dreaming
we can weep and call it singing

where we break
when our hearts are strong enough
we can bow because our music's warmer than blood
where we see enough to follow
we can hear when we are hollow
where we keep the light we’re given
we can lose and call it living
where the sun isn’t only sinking fast
every night knows how long its supposed to last
where the time of our lives is all we have
and we get a chance to say

before we ease away
for all the love you’ve left behind,
you can have mine

say its here
where our pieces fall in place
we can fear
because a feelings fine to betray
where our water isn’t hidden
we can burn and be forgiven
where our hands hurt from healing
we can laugh without a reason
because the sun
isn’t only sinking fast
every moon and our bodies make shining glass
where the time of our lives is all we have
and we get a chance to say

before we ease away
for all the love you’ve left behind,
you can have mine

Music Whenever: The Barr Brothers; "Song that I Heard"

The Barr Brothers were also featured as part of this medley back in 2015.

In the same reckless city
Where great Antonio died
On the island in the river
With a mountain at its side
I came to scatter ashes
Of the bridges I've burned
And I know the name of the song that I heard
Yeah, I know the name of the song I heard

Like a moonlight mathematician
I subtracted my concerns
And I multiplied my options and divided my returns
Sacrificed the angel who was tugging at my shirt
I was already claimed by the song that I heard
Yeah, already chained to the song that I heard

From the corner of my eye I caught the shadow of a girl
But my shoes were tied together and my face was in the dirt
Her gentle eyes said everything before she said a word
And I knew I was changed by the song that I heard
Yeah, I knew right away by the song I heard

In the cult of desperation he stayed just behind the curve
And no one here admits we're getting more than we deserve
I was born a first child, she was born a third
We were already named by the songs that we heard

Yeah, already claimed by the songs we heard
Did I make you out at Phoenix from the ashes of a bird?
Did we build our palace and watch it as it burned?
It's kind of like a lesson that had to be unlearned

Like a fool maker
Fall-taker
Forsaker
Heartbreaker
Earthquaker
Soul-shaker
Soothsayer
Moon prayer
Sun slayer
Yeasayer
Mistaker
Rattlesnaker

We are already changed by the songs we heard

Music Whenever: Lord Huron "The Night We Met"

I've usually done a music video for Valentines Day - a day late this time. For the dark side of love, another bittersweet, lost love song; "I had all and then most of you, Some and now none of you"

I am not the only traveler
Who has not repaid his debt
I've been searching for a trail to follow
Again
Take me back to the night we met
And then, then I can tell myself
What the hell I'm supposed to do
And then, then I can tell myself
Not to ride along with you
I had all
And then most of you
Some and now none of you
Oh, Take me back to the night we met
I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Haunted by the ghost of you
Oh, take me back to the night we met
When the night was full of terror
And your eyes were filled with tears
When you had not touched me yet
Oh, take me back to the night we met
I had all
And then most of you
Some and now none of you
Oh, Take me back to the night we met
I don't know what I'm supposed to do
Haunted by the ghost of you
Oh, Take me back to the night we met

If you want a more upbeat love video I refer you back to Earwigoagin's archives.

Music Whenever: Rufus Wainwright, Sting, "Wrapped Around Your Finger"

Rufus Wainwright is best known for the lush orchestration and the Broadway show tunes vibe of his songs. No surprise that we have the same here with Rufus, Sting and a large ensemble coming together in this very cool version of Sting's "Wrapped Around Your Finger".

Music Whenever: Hands Up

Hands Up from Bryan Eckerson on Vimeo.

A happy-happy, joy-joy boppy disco dance tune from the 1980's by the group Ottawan. You can glimpse occasional snippets of this old, baldish, be-spectacled guy with a yellow tie bouncing around. A family tradition but nuff said.

Music Whenever: Edward Sharpe, Magnetic Zeros, "Man on Fire"

I haven't put up a music video in a while. Hippie, stoner, Edward Sharpe and his musical troupe, the Magnetic Zeros, they, who keep the Woodstock vibe going in the new millennium, put this great video up to their song, "Man on Fire".

Music Whenever: Lone Justice "I Found Love"

Sorry, I missed Valentines Day with this rocking classic on love but better late then never. Featuring the full bodied voice of Maria McKee, this song is from the 1980's.

Music Whenever: The Log Drivers Waltz

No sailing here. Just work, watersport and romance. That just about sums up life.

Did I ever mention I lived in Canada from age 3 to 11.

Music Whenever: Grand Analog "I Play My Kazoo"

I don't feature much rap (up to now, in all my music videos, there are no rap videos that I know of, )... I guess you could call this a lite-rap song by Grand Analog. My musical talent extends only to, but not beyond,  the kazoo. So scour your living space for that special hideaway where your kazoo has been stashed... wait for about 3 minutes into this video... and join in - full bore... Playing the kazoo is good for your soul... Guaranteed.

GRAND ANALOG - I Play My Kazoo from Southern Souls on Vimeo.

This is a story of a man from down south
The fam migrated to the north
I'm a put you on what it's about
The regular routes, Shanty towns that produce
the poor Born in the gutter, word to his mother
Make her something outta nothing, Matter, work harder,
go farther
My poppa said you gotta pop a lock on the purpose
Gotta love, then you implement the heart
Recognize the cause, make it true, whatever you do
Whether you
save the lives or play the kazoo
Be the author not the actor of your chapter to
Blank pages in this open book, now look
I could break it down like whatever you want
I come equipped with the sound, come equipped with the funk
Like whatever you want man
Doing my thing I do what I do
Walk the line, I play my kazoo
Shoot nothing but love when I aim at you
I be the baritone rapper with the falsetto
Walk with myself, Talk to myself, It's hard I know
I like to exercise the mental health
I know that I could do it like no one else
I come alive with the sun beneath the earth
Capture that moment in time like a camera
Withstand the land of a thousand bands
I am a man with no answers
Although I know the analog is grand That come apart like trouble man
I could break it down like whatever you want
I come equipped with the sound, come equipped with the funk
Like whatever you want man
Do my thing
I do what I do
Walk the line,
I play my kazoo
Shoot nothing but love when I aim at you
I be the baritone rapper with the falsetto
Long walk home, the long walk home
Recite colorful flows like Pablo Picasso
Cool fellow collected, connect,  When I metal on the mic, big city bright lights
Got me broken wide open till
I'm useless Like arthritis to a violinist,
I can't diminish
I scrimmage with the wrist when I write,
sip Guinness
I break it down to the compound when I'm in it
Believe it and you'll know, feel it when it flows
She'll feel it in her toes,
and nipples
Possibly maybe hit the spot that tickles
With the beats and the rhymes
sinking in like dimples

I play my kazoo

The Dead South - "In Hell I'll Be In Good Company"

For those who thought, in my last music video, I may have pitched head-first into syrupy elevator music, I offer up this contrarian view of love from "The Dead South". (As with the music video from Little Tybee, this video is shot with the band in many different places.)

[Whistling Intro]
Dead Love couldn't go no further
Proud of and disgusted by her
Push shove, a little bruised and battered
Oh Lord I ain't coming home with you

My life's a bit more colder
Dead wife is what I told her
Brass knife sinks into my shoulder
Oh babe don't know what I'm gonna do

I see my red head, messed bed, tear shed, queen bee
My squeeze
The stage it smells, tells, hell's bells, miss-spells
Knocks me on my knees
It didn't hurt, flirt, blood squirt, stuffed shirt
Hang me on a tree
After I count down, three rounds, in hell I'll be in good company

Dead Love couldn't go no further
Proud of and disgusted by her
Push shove, a little bruised and battered
Oh Lord I ain't coming home with you

My life's a bit more colder
Dead wife is what I told her
Brass knife sinks into my shoulder
Oh babe don't know what I'm gonna do

I see my red head, messed bed, tear shed, queen bee
My squeeze
The stage it smells, tells, hell's bells, misspells
Knocks me on my knees
It didn't hurt, flirt, blood squirt, stuffed shirt
Hang me on a tree
After I count down, three rounds, in hell I'll be in good company

In hell I'll be in Good Company
In hell I'll be in Good Company
[Whistling, Denouement....]

Music Whenever: Bay Ledges "Safe"

Must be a old guy thing. After all the twists and turns of life, I seem to enjoy boppy love songs in my dotage. Early love is where all the possibilities are endless.

I've been catching some of my music (including this one) on my afternoon commute, listening to WTMD.
